Verbal Reasoning Test

Timing: 14 minutes

The Verbal Ability Test utilizes short scenarios which are based on a choice of subjects taken from both school and vocational areas. These go from biology, geology, research and chemistry to engineering, hairdressing , care and business administration. The primary aim of the exercise is to gain an indication of the individual’s ability to critically and non-judgementally analyse the information presented. In essence the test applies verbal ability in a more “real life” setting to help gauge his or her ability with verbal reasoning.

The scenarios are entirely fictional containing information which is unlikely to be found in any real world setting. This was considered important to avoid bias in favour of any group of candidates who may operate in a particular education field (eg. biology) or work environment (eg. engineering). The objective with this assessment is to measure a person’s potential and not to measure their attainment or learned skills.
